2 Mar 2008 - Chapeltown 8 Cross Gates Lions 1
Nine Man Lions Battle Valiantly
With Brett Rose out for six weeks with a broken arm, three other players ill or injured (inlcuding keeper Dominic Maskill) and two unavailable Cross Gates Lions could muster only nine players to take on Chapeltown in round two of the Supplementray Cup. Rather than forfeit the match the players voted to play. In the first half they battled valiantly against a strong Chapeltown sidse and a fierce wind. They had two chances at the Chapeltown end but the first half was tale of battling against the storm in more ways than one. The half ended 5-0 to Chapeltown but even the weather wasn't going to do the Lions any favours, in the second half the wind dropped and the hoped for advantage of having Chapeltown fighting against the wind didn't materialise. Chapeltown scored a further three times but the half wasn't so one sided. Cross Gates had a number of chances and forced acouple of fine saves from the Chapeltown keeper. Alex Proctor, playiong in goal, came up to take a free kick and also came close. In the end determination paid off and with ten minutes to go Josh Shaw scored a well deserved goal. An 8-1 defeat but a perfomance to be proud off by nine players who gave their all.
Alex Proctor(GK), Alexander Elwen(c), Simon Smith, Martin Brown, Josh Shaw(1), Andrew Battye, Ashley Hullock, Guy Hunter, Joe Bilbey.
