11 Dec 2006 - Late Come-back gives Lions first League Win

Cross Gates Lions 5 Beeston Juniors B 3

Four goals in fifteen minutes brought the Lions back from the brink of defeat to snatch three points in their match against Beetson.

The Lions were 1-0 down within seconds of the kick off and despite playing well and putting pressure on Beeston went a further goal down mid way throught the fist half. Just before half time Shaw managed to pull one back for the Lions.

The pace did not slacken from either team in the second half with Beeston playing some good football and scoring a third. Despite what was probably their best performance of the season so far the Lions looked as if they were heading for defeat. With fifteen minutes to go however Capitano scored, this was followed soon after by Rose levelling the score to 3-3. Within minutes a parried shot from Capitano was latched onto by Elwen to make it 4-3 and to make victory almost certain Capitano added another with less than three minutes to go. Beeston didn't let up however and kept up the pressure in the Lion's half up to the final whistle.

To any neutral an exciting 'end-to-end' match with good football from both teams.

An excellent performance from the whole Lions team. Outstanding were Josh Fisher (Man of the match) Capitano, clearing twice off the line with headers and scorring two, and Alfie Leeds, solid and confident in defence.
